WiC Map Making Idea Center
Welcome one and all to the World in Conflict (WiC) Map Making Idea Center. Here you can discuss WiC maps and mods. You can also ask me and possibly AgentE382 to make a certain map. Later on, we will begin discussing the making of a mod! I am capable of releasing Strat guides and screenshots of development. I can also record special sounds and can add loading picture slides and (as long as it is not copywritten or everyone has it) music. If you want a specific sound for signifying that a certain command point was lost (or won, or captured by the enemy) I can add it so long as it is *.mp3, *.wma, *.ogg, or *.wav. So just ask away and I will see what my limited knowledge can do.
Just so you know:
These maps will not be that great in the way of fading to background. I am not real good at sculpting terrain, but I imagine that will improve with time. These maps are REALLY complicated, so expect a map release about a week or more after I say I'll do it. Be creative and don't ask for anything TOO hard.

RE: Map Making
Hmmmmmm, I think I could do that. What sort of terrain does it have and how big would the village be?
I forgot to mention that there is limited space, so its not like I could build the entire city of Charlottesville. I can build portions though.

about 15-20 houses, with a hedge of bushes/trees.

RE: Map Making
Ok, one more question. Should this map be a Domination map, Assault Map, or Tug-of-War map?
Domination Map: Simply put, you try to take and hold as many command points as possible. The more command points you control over the enemy, the faster you dominate the map.
Assault Map: This style of map is more complicated, but a lot of fun. There are two teams. The attacking team, and defending team. The attacking team tries to take the one command point on the map. The defending team tries to keep them from taking the command point. Once the attacking team takes the command point, it goes away and a new one appears somewhere else. The attacking team wins by either capturing all the command points or having more than half of the command points (I think). The defending team wins by keeping all command points when time runs out or by having at least half of the command points (I think). After each round, the teams switch positions so the attacking team becomes the defending team and vice versa.
Tug-of-War Map: I hate this mode, but maybe that is just because I played this mode for the first time against the skilled AgentE382. Tug-of-War is very similar to Assault, only there is one three position command point that the defending team must keep. The attacking team obviously has to take the command point. Once the command point has been taken, the defending team must retreat to the next command point and lose if they reach the end of the map. I think that if the defending team still holds the command point after the time runs out they can attack. Not sure about some stuff because I only played this mode once.

RE: Map Making
Sorry for the double post but I needed to add details and it wouldn't let me edit my post and add a file attachment.
Anyway, HawkBlade, I have four different buildings that I would like you to look at and see what you think. I have handily grouped them into one screenshot.
Btw, this is the first post to contain a file attachment! HOO-AH!!

RE: Map Making
Ok, but that would make the village look kinda boring with only two different styles of buildings. The screenshot doesn't show the other two buildings well so if I told you those were actually houses on stilts (which they are) would it work in the map? Otherwise the village will have to be very small in order to make it look like a village and still not look simplistic.
Btw, based on what I posted about the game modes, which kind of game mode should it be?

RE: Map Making
Sure thing. If all goes well, as_Swkara will be based on a section of the Blue Ridge Mountains! If I can't get it to work, then it will take me a bit to generate the terrain. But besides that, as_Swkara is a go! HOO-AH!!
Btw, did I spell Swkara right?

RE: Map Making
Sorry, I kinda forgot. I need my mom to tell me how to do something in Photoshop so that I can finish the terrain, then I can do more work.

RE: Map Making
Man it has been forever since I started that map. I think I'll try doing it again, although I don't know where the guide I used is anymore so I'll have to default to standard terrain generation techniques. However, I do know that if someone can give me a heightmap image it is really easy to make a map. Now that I think about it, that would make it really easy.
Heightmaps are just simple black and white images that are used by the editor to determine the high and low points are on the map. If I remember correctly, solid black is the highest point and solid white is the lowest point. Shades of gray make the points in between the highest and lowest points. I once saw an example heightmap that would have made the map a giant smiley face.
I can try to find an example if you guys want to try that.

Heh heh, as if my post wasn't big enough, I have more stuff to add. I finally think a mod for WiC is in order. Granted its crazy complicated and may very well be impossible, but if AgentE382 and I can work together on it I think it can work.
My idea is to have the U.S. be the Government and the USSR the Rebels. NATO could be some independent group or rouge aliens. This mod would basically throw the user into the world we have created as the Spy RPG. So, to make this mod, I'm would like you guy's help when I build maps (Especially you HawkBlade, I would like to make extensive use of Sakura and HawkBlade's home territory). Specifically I would like your input on what the maps should look like, what things to put in (Trees or no trees, birds, a chicken coop I'm serious, I can do that. ), etc. Also, whenever command points are captured, lost, or taken by the enemy, a voice will declare that. I think it would be really cool if we could have people who play spies make the voiceovers for the Rebels, and those who play Government Agents the Government. I'm not sure how we would do the NATO team, but we can deal with that when we get to it.
I think this mod has some serious potential and would be really cool if we all were a part of it. Anyway, just an idea for you all. Btw, if any of you guys have any proficiency in 3D modeling, I'd love to have you make some WiC content. Tanks, jeeps, and whatnot.
