Hmmmmmmm, I'm not entirely sure we have the BEST Air Force in the world, but we do have a good one for sure. I think it depends on the air role your talking about. For example, MiG 29s do get shot down a lot, but its because their long range sensors and weapons systems are just about worthless. But the frame and short range equipment make it one of the most deadly dogfighters EVER. In a German training battle, F-16 Fighting Falcons were pitted against MiG 29s in short range dogfights, and the F-16s (being hailed as the best ground attack fighter ever made in the west) were totally wiped out. Because they were using rules that made it so that if you were "shot down" you didn't have to leave the battlefield, instead you respawned and fought again, the F-16s didn't score a single kill until they were shot down about 17 times.

On the other hand, you put just about any fighter in front of an F-15 or F-35, and they are as good as dead. We have advanced weapons systems and ground support. In most situations, we are unstoppable. Though no air force is without weakness, as the MiG training match proves, I'd say we're up there in skill.
