King of the Hill

This was the best news HawkBlade had heard in quite a while. He hopped up and immediately started tracing the assassin. A broken branch here, a squashed mushroom there. He followed the trail for about a half-hour until it abruptly cut off. He scoured the area but could not find any trace of the man. He went back to the base disgusted. That's the first time i ever lost somebody. He's good.

"HawkBlade! Did you find him?" "No. I lost him." "What? HawkBlade losing someone? You are slipping old man!" Tomat joked. HawkBlade grinned ruefully. "I suppose I am."

Tomat walked to a door in the wall. After scanning his hand print and his retina, the door opened to reveal an elevator. Tomat stepped in and the doors closed automatically and took him down. When the doors opened, a factory sprawled out before him. All the workers were constructing Anti-Missile defense systems for all the hills. Tomat walked over to the foreman currently in charge and asked him "How are things going?" "Rather well General. I have another batch getting ready for delivery and two more almost done. We started six more batches today and should all be done by tomorrow." "Very good. Keep up the good work." "You can count on it sir." Tomat, satisfied, was walking back when Tomat's worst nightmare happened. A huge explosion rocked the factory. All work ground to halt as Fire Alarms went off. Ignoring the downpour from the Sprinkler System, Tomat rushed headlong towards the mass of roiling smoke and fire that used to be a Targeting Computer Constructor Machine. A black figure leaped from above and slammed into Tomat's gut. The general fell hard on the concrete but managed to stay conscious. He lashed out with a kick that lacked some power due to Tomat's windedness. Tomat noted grimly that his aim was off too as he watched his kick pound air. Finally getting his breath back, Tomat leaped up and threw an uppercut at the saboteur. The man ducked and Tomat used his momentum to bring his right arm down hard on the man's head. The man slumped to the floor, unconscious. Tomat heaved the man up and carried him with ease back through the door that would take him topside.

When he arrived, Fire Crews were waiting and a cheer went up when they saw Tomat alive. Security personnel were waiting and took the prisoner into custody. Tomat then checked in with the medics again and they found nothing wrong. Ok, NOW I need to tell Soliss...right after he wakes up from the beaning on the head I'm going to give him if he hasn't slept since the last time we talked. Tomat grinned at the thought, but knew he would not be disappointed if he wouldn't have to do that.

HawkBlade was disgusted. How did the saboteur get past our defenses? The alarms, motion scanners, and DNA decoders should have stopped him! He was sitting in a cool, stone chamber, interrogating the prisoner. "Who sent you." The man remained silent, tight lipped. "I said, WHO SENT YOU!!!!" He yelled the last few words, slamming his fist into the metal table, denting it. A nimbus of crackling lightning surrounding his fist. The man jumped, but still remained silent. HawkBlade allowed a small slash of lightning to sap out and it connected with a hair on the saboteur's head. There was a sharp pop, and the hair disappeared. Sabby jumped again and looked with fear at HawkBlade's hand. "It was Stryker!"

Tomat, watching through a peep-hole in the door, smiled. HawkBlade could act scary, and that made him the best interrogator they had.

While watching and listening to the interrogation, Tomat's comm buzzed. He reached down and unclipped it from his belt, then activated it. "Gen. Fontar here. This better be good. I'm in the middle of something." A security officer came back over the comm, "Sorry to disturb you General, but we found that the man who attacked you just inside the gate and the man who attacked you in the factory are the same person." "What? How did you find this out?" "The cell we put the attacker in had the door blown out as if he just punched the lock. This was discovered shortly before the factory sabotage." "I see. Keep trying to find solid information on this man in case he talks, but lies while he's at it." "Yes sir." "Gen. Fontar out." Tomat deactivated the comm and continued watching the interrogation.

Suddenly the man growled in a mechanical voice," You will never defeat my Master, fools!" With that the man sprang on HawkBlade with a growl. A sword clashed down on the attacker's head, but instead of killing him it split him in two. "This is a fake! A robot!," roared HawkBlade. He ripped out of the robot a small chip with the imprint of a sea monster on it. The chip read: Interconnect Rebowt Systems. "Get me Tomat now," HawkBlade said. This we haven't seen in years! If I am right about who is behind this then we have a very small chance to live, Thought HawkBlade.

Tomat was in the room before HawkBlade had finished his sentence. "I saw everything. This," Tomat pointed to the remains of the robot, "would explain the superhuman strength he had, along with the impeccable stealth. What is so special about that chip you are holding?" HawkBlade studied it closely for a minute, then said dejectedly, "I have an idea, but it will take some explaining. It just says Interconnect Rebowt (Is that supposed to be "Robot", Shayla?) Systems on it and that could mean some serious trouble." "Could I see that?" HawkBlade handed Tomat the chip and he too studied it for a bit. "This is a highly advanced processor. I would bet that with the right equipment from the tech lab, I could run every computer on this base without a hitch." HawkBlade stared at Tomat with disbelief, "You have GOT to be kidding me." "Nope, this thing is powerful. Based on the thickness and the sheer number of pins, I would rate this at no less than a 20 core processor at 50GHz per core." "That isn't possible with technology today! That only serves to confirm my suspicions." "Oh boy, I think you tell this to me. Every detail." "Ok, but it would be better if we went to my office so that I can tell you about this without any security issues." The two walked out of the interrogation room after reporting what had happened and techs greedily took the robot remains to their labs to dissect and find out its every secret.

Ah, well James was a big part of that sub plot. That is why he is in there a lot. As I explained on vent, that was a mission that Tomat and James did and he ended up doing most of the work But we really need to just post parts for the story here. This kind of posting is for the chat room.

Outside, a small bug crept though a crack on the base of HQ. It sped through the tunnels that were made for it to pass through the walls of HQ. In seconds it found the room it was looking for, and crept through another crack in the wall. Then it gave of a high pitched beep while crawling up the leg of a desk. After it reached the top it beeped again. The being sitting at the desk looked at the bug and hissed," Ahhh... I see you are back, but do you bring important information this time?" The bug nodded. " Then let's get that into our data base. Go begin recharge, then come back to me," she hissed. The bug scampered off. "Now.... let's begin the removal of those rebels. It's about time I begin playing the game," she laughed. She turned revealing a deep scar running across her right eye. She had a shaved head, black eyes, and a dark cloak that went to her feet. The eye wit the scar was metal with a red dot in the middle of it. " They will not be pleased to meet me. I am much more powerful than that fool Styrker!" she growled.

Tomat and HawkBlade walked through the corridors to HawkBlade's office. After they had entered, HawkBlade pulled a small object about 3 inches cubed and pushed a button on it. "Ok Tomat, we are secure." Tomat gave HawkBlade a quizzical look. "You don't trust your own office security?" "Not anymore. The fact that an Interconnect Rebowt Systems robot got here means that someone from there is here, or very close by and could easily be listening to any office here." Tomat sighed, "Great. Now I have to bean Soliss to get him to sleep, then tell him TWO more things for him and his teams to investigate." HawkBlade smiled, "Is he pushing himself again?" "Yeah, he's as dedicated as they come. Almost too dedicated. He's slowly killing himself acting like this." "Well, I imagine Soliss will feel like a new man after he recovers from your sneak attack." Tomat chuckled the said, "Yeah, you're right. So, about Interconnect Rebowt Systems." HawkBlade grew very serious. "Well Tomat, it goes like this...

An aide burst in just as HawkBlade was about to start explaining. "Sorry to interrupt sirs, but an army of robots with phasers are coming this way! "Blast it all! Rebowt!" HawkBlade slammed the table with his fist, shaking it. "Tomat, we need to move now. I would suggest a nuke, but we dont have any." Tomat looked genuinely surprised. "A nuke? Why go to all the trouble? Fire up the Li'l Hawk and I'll call out the airforces. If that doesn't work, then we can nuke them!"

Alarms blared all over as a rush of personnel scrambled to their battlestations. "Battlestations! Battlestations! This is not a drill! Repeat! This is not a drill!" The automated message played over and over it's shill warning. Tomat and HawkBlade fought their way to the main hangar and got suited up. They proceeded to a inconspicuous door near the rear of the hangar. It opened to Tomat's handprint and password and revealed an elevator. The two pilots entered and were sent down about 6 stories underground; which is even lower than the factories. When the elevator stopped, it opened inside a special hangar reserved for the Lil' Hawk and Tomat's squadron of crack pilots using modified F-16 Fighting Falcons. "Attention!" The second in command of the squadron, Kirk Gregory, snapped. The rest of the squadron, in formation with Gregory, snapped to perfect attention. HawkBlade and Tomat, as one, stopped, went to attention, and saluted. "At ease, men." Tomat said. The pilots relaxed. "HawkBlade, you and your crew go ahead and rev up the Lil' Hawk and my men will escort you." "You got it!" HawkBlade rushed off to join the ground crew working on getting the special craft ready for combat.

Tomat turned his attention to his own pilots. "Alright men, we are going to get some practice in air-to-ground combat. It is simply a huge army of robots armed with phasers. They haven't gotten within solid sensor range just yet, so we don't know if they can shoot at us. Be ready to evade ground fire at any time. Also, they may have air units behind them that haven't gotten within range of our sensors. Load your fighters accordingly. Once you run out of ammo, which believe me you will, land back at the main runway and taxi to a weapons loading dock. Tell them what loadout you had and they'll load that up every time you come back. If you want to change it, tell them. After you have been rearmed and refueled, come on back. That is all the intel I have. If we don't destroy this army before it gets within 50 miles of the base, we'll have to use a nuke, so move fast. Now lets show them what we're made of. Hooah?" The pilots enthusiastically bellowed, "HOO-AH!" "Now get to your ships, and may God go with us." Tomat and the pilots ran to their fighters. Each told the ground crew working on his fighter what weapons to use. Using all six pylons and the two wing slots, Tomat opted for four cluster bombs, two AGM-65 Maverick missiles, and two AIM-9X Sidewinder missiles. He also had his cannon loaded with armor piercing 20-mm explosive depleted uranium bullets instead of the standard explosive rounds. The other pilots chose similar layouts and all were ready in five minutes.

Over a loud speaker, the commands came thundering out. "Pilots! Start your craft!" The hangar was suddenly filed with the sound of a large number of jet engines starting up. Six F-16 Fighting Falcons and the Lil' Hawk all started at once as the pilots scrambled into the cockpits of their fighters. The ground crew removed the chocks from the wheels and rushed away. A large door at the end of the full size runway opened to almost blind the pilots with the extra light from the outside. After adjusting to the light, a crewman with light wands started guiding the Lil' Hawk and the Peacemaker squadron into takeoff position. Once that was accomplished, HawkBlade signaled that he was ready, and a radio communications check was initiated with Ground Control. "Control, this is Gen. HawkBlade in the Lil' Hawk, radio check." "We read you loud and clear General." "Good. Requesting immediate takeoff." "Granted Gen. HawkBlade. Good luck out there." "Thank you, I may need it." Tomat and the Peacemaker Squadron watched as the Lil' Hawk lurched forward and rumbled down the runway. In a graceful movement, the Lil' Hawklifted gently off the runway and into the wild blue yonder. Then it was Tomat's turn. "Peacemaker Squadron, report in!" "Peacemaker 2, ready to go." "Peacemaker 3, let's get 'em boss!" "Peacemaker 4, all systems go." "Peacemaker 5, all set to make some noise." Then Tomat contacted Ground Control. "Control, this is Gen. Fontar and Peacemaker Squadron, radio check." "We ready you crystal clear Gen. Fontar." "Copy, requesting immediate takeoff." "Granted Gen. Fontar, good luck out there." "Thanks. Fontar out." Tomat slammed the throttle to full afterburner and rocketed down the runway. The squadron in turn also took off and formed up on Tomat." "Lead to squadron, maintain formation until we reach the target zone. After that, just report when you are going back for fuel, ammo, or whatever and when you are coming back." Five affirmatives answered him. "Good. Lets rock and roll!" The Lil' Hawk and Peacemaker Squadron soared towards the Robowt army.

HawkBlade loaded 10,000 rounds of titanium-tipped 7.62x54r into each of his machine guns. At 10 rounds per second, that would last about 15 minutes of constant fire. He also loaded 10 Air-to Ground missiles, and 3 incendiary bombs. Ready to clock some robots! The Li'l Hawk glided into the air, making almost no noise (it is battery powered, remember ).

Back at Rebowt Shayla started barking questions. "WHAT!? What do you mean you thought I said launch an attack on the rebels! Retreat imedietly!" "There must be some one behind this. It must be Stryker," she growled. Meanwhile back at the rebel base the robots began retreating into the forest. "Wait, what is going on?" the solders started asking eachother.

"Lead, this is Peacemaker 3. Enemy is starting a full retreat. Do we press on the attack?" "That is an affirmative, 3. Engage at will." Whoops and yells filled the airwaves as the Lil' Hawk and Peacemaker Squadron descended on the robots who were moving towards the forest will all speed. *Fwooosh!* *BOOOMM!!* "Scratch three robots!" *BRRRRRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAPPPP!!* "Got a whole column!" "Hey, no getting more kills than me!" "Is it my fault if I'm better than you?" "Cut the chat guys, blow them to shreds!" "Will do, chief!" *More explosions and sounds of battle* "Tomat, this is HawkBlade. I have no more ammo and slightly damaged from some ground fire. Ready to head out?" "Yeah, go on ahead. The squadron and I will empty our ammo and follow you home." "Copy that, have fun!" Tomat watched the Lil' Hawk silently streak away as he zeroed another Maverick Missile on its unlucky target. A flick of the thumb and the missile sped on to its suicide mission. Tomat pulled up before the flash of the explosion could have a chance to blind him. "Ok men, that was my last round. Everyone else out of ammo?" "Lead, this is 2. No ammo and bingo fuel. Ready to head home." Similar reports came from the rest so the squadron formed and headed out. In all, 129 robots were destroyed or rendered useless.

Deep inside the hidden base of Stryker, Intelligence officers cackled with glee. It worked! "Stryker will be most pleased that we can control Rebowt's robots. We must report to him immediately." One of them said. "I will go and report." The rest decided to stay at their posts and continue working. the intel officer walked down the corridors until he had made his way to Stryker's office. He knocked softly on the door and a muffled "Come in." came back. Stepping in, the intel officer saluted and proudly reported, "Your highness, the devices work!" Stryker stood up in amazement. "This is most excellent! How goes the other projects." "On or ahead of schedule, depending on the project." "Amazing! You intel units are one of the only competent people I have!" "Thank you very much sir!" "Ah, but I must thank you and your colleagues for being efficient. Return to your post and see what other good news you can make." "Yes sir!" The intel officer saluted once more and left to tell the others, then continue working.
